University Hospital San Antonio Revamps Floorcare Program with TASKI Floorcare Machines

Challenge:

University Hospital in San Antonio is one of the nation’s leading teaching hospitals and South Texas’ premier Level I trauma center. To maintain a clean, safe and inviting environment for patients, families and staff, floor care is essential. With over 1 million square feet of space, it is critical that floor care equipment operates efficiently, effectively and reliably.

“We have a massive facility and had a hodgepodge of floorcare equipment with half of it tagged for repairs,” said Denine Temple, System Director of Environmental Services, University Hospital San Antonio. “With one of our machine providers, it could take up to three months to fix something simple. We are super busy and had up to 20 machines down at a time. This is unacceptable.
We needed a reliable partner.”

Solution:

University Hospital turned to TASKI for its TASKI ULTIMAXX 1900 scrubber driers. The ULTIMAXX range features a customizable, modular design with multiple brush decks to optimize productivity and lower operational costs.

To learn more about TASKI machines, Temple attended a TASKI “Innovation Day” in Dallas where she learned about the machines and how to use and maintain them. At the event, Temple was able to “get under the skin” of the machines and learn more about TASKI’s culture and support.

“TASKI didn’t just say ‘trust me,’ they showed me the difference,” Temple said. “I was blown away in particular by the IntelliTrail package. This is the best thing running out there. I have other vendors approach me, and there is nothing like this on the market.”

IntelliTrail 2.0 is TASKI’s latest Internet of Things (IoT) fleet tracking tool that allows customers to gain valuable insights about machine usage, location, battery health, crashes and other insights remotely.

“For me, it was epic,” Temple said. “With IntelliTrail, I could hold my floor team accountable. I could see if the machine ran, for how long it ran, if it crashed, if battery and water levels are good and more. That’s huge, I don’t have to physically check it out. I can see all of that on my phone.”

Temple also said customer support is night and day in comparison to other machine providers. She appreciates the responsiveness and expertise of the TASKI support team.

“We had two TASKI machines go down, and within 2 to 3 days, we had a tech out here fixing the machines.
That spoke volumes to me,” Temple said.

Because of the lack of support from other machine vendors, University Hospital’s CEO noticed a decline in the appearance of floors, something he felt needed to be addressed swiftly to maintain the hospital’s prestigious image.

“I told leadership that we couldn’t get our machines fixed quickly enough, so we were mopping the floors manually,” Temple said. “Getting approval for investment in the new machines wasn’t hard for me because our senior executives understand the value of clean floors.”

University Hospital employs approximately 40 floor techs. The team likes the maneuverability of the machines and the performance of the squeegee in particular.

“My floor team grabs the TASKI machines first over our other machines,” Temple said. “They love the vacuum power that they produce, not leaving a trail for slips and falls.”

Results:

University Hospital in San Antonio is experiencing the following benefits with TASKI machines:

• Significantly improved uptime – Machine service time has gone from months to days, ensuring machines are always available for floor techs • Enhanced fleet tracking – IntelliTrail will allow University Hospital to gain valuable machine insights easily that will allow it to enhance its floorcare program

•Improved employee morale – Employees appreciate the ease of use and efficacy of the machines

• Enhanced facility appearance – The machines help University Hospital to maintain crystal clean floors that enhance its image

“The reps and everyone at TASKI have been great,” Denine concluded. “The time our rep has spent here working with me has been outstanding. Their communication has been fantastic, I don’t have a question that goes unanswered. To me, that is the best relationship to have.”
